The Bride
By Sam Alyssa is Sam’s rock, best friend, and biggest supporter. She’s steady, honest, thoughtful, and just quirky enough to make life far more interesting than it would be otherwise. With a wildly creative imagination, she has rebranded the English language. Breakfast is now “brekkie,” snack is “snackie,” and sausage has somehow become “sau-sig.” These words have become alarmingly common in Sam's vocabulary as well. Traditional pet names have been replaced with creations like “Mandarin Sherer” and “Sambam.” She also rewrites popular song lyrics — usually about the dogs and their unmatched cuteness — creating a household soundtrack that would require a UN translator to interpret. When she’s not coining words or producing canine remixes, Alyssa is transforming the house into a home. A loyal Target enthusiast (especially when Sam is paying), she’s always hunting for the perfect finishing touch. Donation runs to Goodwill channel her inner Marie Kondo, though the total amount of stuff never seems to shrink. She is also a master of task management. Notebooks fill quickly with lists, timelines, sticky notes, and color-coded plans. Big projects require binders (plural), dividers, and labeled tabs that rival a small archive. She tackles goals in focused 25-minute sprints, powered by “Alexa, set a timer,” and somehow advances five priorities at once. The order may look unconventional, but every detail eventually falls into place — exactly as she envisioned.
The Groom
By Alyssa Sam is a frugal king, a sports encyclopedia, and a man deeply committed to following a good system. If you mention the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, or Chicago Cubs, prepare for a full breakdown complete with stats, historical context, and passionate commentary. Game days are sacred, and coaching from the couch is taken very seriously. Sam also has a deep appreciation for unnecessarily large vocabulary words and the art of hyperbole. If Alyssa reorganizes the bathroom without warning, everything is "chaotic". If the dogs get sick in the house, it never fails to be "everywhere"! In this house, things don't just spill, they "spew". Oh and yes, he will still tell Alyssa about the time he almost got struck by lightning — a story that grows slightly more dramatic with every retelling. He uses big words confidently and often, whether they’re fully required or not. When he’s not analyzing a game, he’s fake-playing basketball in the living room, perfecting his euro step like he’s about to sub in during the fourth quarter. He is an avid AirPods user, blasting pop punk and singing whatever melody is currently stuck in his head — which will, inevitably, become stuck in Alyssa’s head too. He may not know all the lyrics, but that has never stopped him from performing with full confidence. He balances Alyssa perfectly: she brings the vision; he brings the structure. She says, “Let’s do it!” He says, “Let’s make a plan first.”
Matron of Honor
Haley is Alyssa’s little sister, lifelong partner in chaos, and professional co-creator of weird voices and aggressively overused, absolutely ridiculous Snapchat filters. Together, they inevitably annoy their mom while fully convincing their dad they are the funniest people alive. Their past times include watching murder documentaries or horror movies like it’s a bonding activity and treating their pets like actual human children. WARNING: when together, they can become slightly unhinged. Volume increases. Accents appear. Self-control disappears.
Best Man
They say to never meet your heroes. Jacob met Sam in 2001 and while they may have not had a ton in common growing up five years apart from each other, they have grown quite close over the years. Sam can not imagine having anyone other than Jacob (or Rocky as he was sometimes known in the Sherer household) standing next to him for the most important moment of his life.
Bridesmaid
Katherine is Alyssa’s trusted singing partner and co-star in their ongoing obsession with the live version of Iris — specifically the one where the Goo Goo Dolls are singing in the rain like it’s the most emotionally devastating performance of all time. When working on anything remotely important, Katherine will inevitably remove the computer mouse from Alyssa’s hand “to just fix it,” and cannot resist pulling the lever on Alyssa’s chair mid-conversation, sending her slowly sinking toward the floor. Her sarcasm is elite, her timing is unmatched, and her ability to tolerate Alyssa’s chaotic energy — including the occasional dramatic “I’m about to pass out” — deserves recognition. Most importantly, she is steady, loyal, and an incredibly great friend. Alyssa is endlessly grateful she’s by her side.
Groomsman
Sam and Andrew met freshman year of college when they pledged the same fraternity. He self admittedly was not so sure about Sam at first but they soon became great friends and ended up living together senior year. He can always be counted on for advice, great support, and the occasional POV shot of himself in the mirror filming with his phone in his mouth.
Bridesmaid
Amanda became Alyssa’s closest friend at Furman University, bonding over not one, but two truly horrible roommates. They played violin together, survived Dr. Joiner yelling “tune or die,” and shared the unforgettable moment of getting spray tans the day of graduation — much to Alyssa’s dad’s amusement. They discovered they have the exact same sense of humor, love for all things cute (hello, Pusheen), and knack for picking on Sam. Their late night tea sessions often led to random chaos, such as the creation of their Instagram, Square Watermelon. Sweet, silly, and endlessly supportive, Amanda has been a constant through Alyssa and Sam's lives — and they couldn’t imagine their story without her.
Groomsman
Prem was one of Sam's first friends at Furman when they lived on the same hall freshman year. They ended up living together sophomore year, where Sam and Alyssa used to play a game stashing as many random items in his bed as possible to see if he would notice (highlights included hangers and shoes he never noticed). He is a loyal friend who has been a part of their relationship from the very beginning.
Groomsman
Sam and Parker also met freshman year when they lived on the same hall, and ended up pledging the same fraternity. They even lived together senior year where Parker displayed great patience with Sam's shenanigans, including when a dart board given as a Christmas gift resulted in 200 dart sized holes in the wall.
Bridesmaid
Katie may be Sam’s little sister, but Alyssa has unofficially adopted her as her own — and together they make mischief a team sport, especially when it comes to picking on Sam. Alyssa often has to bite back laughter at Katie’s perfectly timed jokes (sorry, Sam!). Her competitive streak is unmatched — she will never let Alyssa win at a game of Ticket to Ride — and her sarcasm is equally lethal. Katie also brings out the kid in everyone: tubing on the lake with her and narrowly avoiding Mark's attempts to throw them in the water is a memory Alyssa will never forget. Sharp, hilarious, and full of heart, Katie is a constant source of laughter and fun — and Alyssa wouldn’t have it any other way.
Groomsman
Sam and Shane met during Sam's freshman year of college. Even though he was one year ahead of the rest of us, we quickly became close friends. Shane can always be counted on to encourage some crazy idea, uttering his famous catch phrase "just do it baby bro" along the way. Check out his merch table in the back of the reception for official "Baby Bro" shirts and stickers.
Groomsman
Sam and Scott met freshman year of college. While their time together freshman year was cut short when Scott was hospitalized after being brutally mauled by a hawk named Remington, they quickly bonded over their mutual love of football and baseball once Scott made a full recovery.
