When Mikayla and Josiah met in February of 2018, Josiah had been working with the Twilight Theater Company as their Construction Lead for a few months. Mikayla found her way into Twilight through acting in their play "Antigone", which Josiah built the set for. Immediately following Mikayla was the Stage Manager for "Stage Kiss" (Twilight's next play) while Josiah built the set. This led to many late nights working on creating this play together where they discovered their shared passions for theatre, mutual faith in God outside of the institutional church, Oregon's beauty, awkward comedy, and so much more. They began to kindle a relationship with a depth that throughly surprised them both. Josiah gave Mikayla security, healing, and friendship in ways she never knew she needed or knew were possible in a romantic partner. Mikayla gave Josiah spontaneity, kinship, and a deeper sense of his emotions. In June of 2018, Mikayla went back to Hawaii for a few weeks for some grief healing time and to visit friends (the town where she had lived for a few months when she was eighteen and had fallen in love with). She invited Josiah to meet her there during the last week of her trip. He was taken aback and hesitant but his family encouraged him to do it. Now, everyone is sure glad that he did! During this amazing week they spent in Hawaii together their bond grew deeper and stronger, "I love you" was said for the first time by a Hawaiian ocean sunset, and Mikayla finally agreed to be Josiah's girlfriend. In mid March of 2020, COVID-19 shook the world... and Mikayla and Josiah's Spring Break plans! On the night they were supposed to be in front of Hogwarts in Universal Studios Hollywood, Josiah transformed his apartment into an elaborate version of the Harry Potter world. Beside the beautiful decorations and charcuterie board - holding a golden snitch with a ring inside, Josiah got down on his knee and asked Mikayla to be his forever partner.
