Located conveniently in town, Colorado National Monument preserves one of the grand landscapes of the American West. This treasure is much more than a monument. Towering monoliths exist within a vast plateau and canyon panorama. You can experience sheer-walled, red rock canyons along the twists and turns of Rim Rock Drive, where you may spy bighorn sheep and soaring eagles. Jo and Georgia love driving the scenic road and hiking the endless trails within the Monument.
If you are looking to escape the summer heat while visiting Grand Junction, you can drive 45 minutes east to the top of the Grand Mesa. The Grand Mesa is the largest flat-top mountain in the world, bursting with over 300 lakes. It stands 10,000 feet above sea level with lush aspen forests and groves of pine trees. Wildlife abounds on the Mesa including moose, deer, and elk. Georgia and Jo spend a lot of their free time on the Grand Mesa- snowboarding in the winter and camping in the summer.
Take a stroll on our beautiful Main Street! We love perusing the shops, dining, and enjoying the 100+ sculptures in downtown Grand Junction. Some favorite stops include The Hog and the Hen for candy and speciality grocery items, A Robin's Nest for antiques and treasures, Willow Creek for teas and herbs, and Suehiro for sushi and bento boxes.
Grand Junction and Palisade are home to over 30 wineries and tasting rooms that serve up some of Colorado’s best wines. Our favorite place to enjoy a glass is Restoration Vineyards. They provide beautiful outdoor seating surrounded by their vineyard, with breathtaking views of the Book Cliffs. On weekends you will find live music and a rotating selection of food trucks.
Our favorite drive through. Jo's usual order is the carne asada burrito. Georgia goes for the chile relleno plate or a bean and cheese burrito smothered in pork green chili. Ask for every flavor of salsa.
This is a quaint museum located right downtown. Make sure to walk the stairs, or ride the elevator, to the very top of the viewing tower for a 360 view of the beautiful Grand Valley. “Ride” in a stagecoach, “fly” a 1958 Cessna, and gaze upon an ancient cup and ladle from the Anasazi. Study Ute and Fremont Art, see the real firearms that outlaws used, sit in a one-room schoolhouse, and visit the Pastime saloon – all at the Museum of the West!
