Machu Picchu

The Wedding Website of Joshua Veitch and Ximena Zapata
For people who are interested in visiting Cusco and Machu Picchu, below are the steps. Please note that going to and from Machu Picchu is a all day trip and you will need your passport to enter with your tickets. 1. Fly Lima to Cusco, arrive early the day before at least since you will need to climatize because you are at risk of altitude sickness. 2. Make sure you book your tickets in advance on the government website. Select which circuit you would like to tour. https://www.machupicchu.gob.pe/ 3. Book train tickets from Cusco to Agua Calientes. Note that the journey will involve bus rides as well. 4. Your journey will begin early morning. You will need to get to the train/bus station. They will transport you all the way to Agua Calientes (last town to Machu Picchu). Then, you will need to buy a SEPARATE bus ticket in Agua Calientes and they will shuttle you up.

Flight

Lima(LIM) to Cusco(CUZ)

Train

Peru Rail : Vistadome Observatory Train

Perurail has a variety of different trains to take you but we highly suggest the Vistadome Observatory Train. There are other trains that are higher and lower price.

Travel Note

Safety and Scam

Cusco is safe all hours, just stay close to the square (where you want to be anyway) and you will have no worries. Please always remain aware of your surrounding. Do not give money to beggars. Do not fall victim to the “photo opp trap”. There are women dressed in traditional clothing running around the city, and they have cute baby lambs. They’ll try to get you to take a photo with them. You might think it’s harmless- but once that camera clicks, they will hassle you and demand money. You can give them a few soles as this is how they earn money. Beware they can hassle you for more money do not give in and just walk away.

Travel Note

Hikers

Anyone wanting to hike please be safe and have a trustworthy guide. Potential websites to check out: https://www.alpacaexpeditions.com/ https://www.salkantaytrekking.com/ Also, please keep in mind hiking Machu Picchu is not easy. Its not about being only fit, but its about how your body handles the altitude.
