Why Buena Vista?

Answer

Josh and Veronica love going to the mountains and Buena Vista is a perfect town to experience a true Colorado summer. The Collegiate Peaks, Arkansas river and quaint mountain town is the perfect spot to get married.

What to know about the elevation in Buena Vista?

Answer

Buena Vista is located at roughly 8000 feet. When coming here directly from sea level there is a risk of getting altitude sickness. Make sure to stay hydrated in the week leading up to the wedding and of course on the day you arrive. If altitude sickness is a concern; keep in mind that prescription treatment is available by the name of Diamox. It is safe and effective if taken prior to arriving at high altitudes.

Weather in Buena Vista?

Answer

Expect low to mid 70s or 80s during the day, and mid to high 40's at night. The sun can be very strong at this altitude, 80 in the sun here is warmer than it sounds. Sunscreen and sun hats are encouraged! August is considered to be within Colorado's rainy season, but rain showers usually come in the afternoon and pass quickly.

It will feel very hot mid day and cool in the mornings and evenings. Layers are key. Sun/river hat, sunscreen, reusable water bottle, water shoes, if you'd like to have a river dip or raft.

Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The ceremony will take place outdoors in the Chateau Courtyard at the Surf Hotel. The courtyard has cement hard floors and is shaded. The cocktail and reception is a short walk away on a gravel path. Dinner and dancing will be indoors in the Ivy Ballroom.

Are there restaurants nearby to The Surf Hotel?

Answer

There are a few shops and restaurants a stones throw away from the hotel, but most of the dining options (especially that are open for early breakfast) are downtown Buena Vista on Main Street. The downtown strip on Main Street is about a 15 minute walk, or a 5 minute drive away from the hotel.
