NORTH CAROLINA participated in every major naval offensive in the Pacific theater of operations, earning 15 battle stars. Today, this authentically restored Battleship preserves our proud Naval history and serves as her state’s World War II memorial to the 11,000+ North Carolinians who sacrificed their all for their country.

Great views and plenty of waterfront restaurants! Hotel Ballast is located right on the Riverwalk.

Wrightsville Beach

Wrightsville is the closest beach to the venue and hotels. There are restaurants and bars along the main drag. Tower7 for tacos and margaritas, Trolly Stop for hot dogs, Robert's for great chicken salad and beach picnic supplies! Head down to the South End to watch surfers and dine on a pier over the water at Oceanic.

Explore 67 acres containing formal gardens, wildlife, ten acres of lakes, more than 75,000 azaleas, the tall Airlie Oak which dates back to 1545, and a seasonal butterfly house all located two miles west of Wrightsville Beach. Walk the trails or ride a tram to discover landscapes where something is always in bloom.

Fort Fisher State Recreation Area

18 miles south of Wilmington, Fort Fisher State Recreation Area is the only park in the system that allows four-wheel-drive beach access, making it popular for surf fishing. Warm weather months bring loggerhead sea turtles to nest along the park's sandy shores. A trail traverses the salt marsh and ends at an observation deck with views of Zeke's Island and the Cape Fear River. The marsh, brimming with wildlife, provides plenty of watching opportunities for birders and photographers year-round. Plus, Miranda worked here in college!
