Lyman’s Tavern is where we had our first date! We want to start the weekend celebrations off with a welcome cocktail reception. Select beers and drinks will be provided, as well as some bar snacks. Bring some quarters or cash if you want to play some pinball!
We'll be having our reception and dinner in the evening to celebrate our wedding with everyone. The official ceremony will take place privately earlier in the day, but we're so excited to get to spend the evening dancing, eating, and making merry! Please arrive at 6pm.
You're encouraged to have fun and dress a bit outside the box, but anything business casual or above is fine! The queerer, the better! Please do not wear white!
There are two hotels near the venue that are reasonably priced with open rooms - Hilton Doubletree Silver Spring (https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/dcagsdt-doubletree-washington-dc-silver-spring/), and Courtyard Silver Spring Downtown (https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/wassv-courtyard-silver-spring-downtown/overview/). Please stay wherever your budget and interests allow. Our venue (Silver Branch Brewing) is easily accessible by the Red Line Metro and a many different bus lines. We recommend against staying in Virginia as travel times and costs to get to the venue will likely eat up any savings by not staying closer.
Unfortunately, we can't accommodate every guest bringing a date. Please refer to your RSVP for any guest information.
Not really. There is some street parking nearby along with a few pay parking garages. We encourage guests to walk, rideshare, or take public transportation to the venue.
We'll have a taco bar buffet with some other hors d'oeuvres. Silver Branch is a great brewery and we'll have an open bar with some of their beer offerings, rail spirits, and soft drinks. Premium spirits and select beers will be available at an extra cost.
Lots of stuff! If you like museums, all the Smithsonian Museums are free (a few require free tickets to enter). Josh's favorites are the Natural History Museum and the Hirshhorn. October is also a great time of year to visit the monuments (weather permitting). Dan's favorite is the FDR Memorial. Outdoorsy people may also enjoy hiking in Rock Creek Park which runs through MD and DC. We're also a big music city, so if you're into that check out The Anthem, 9:30 Club, The Atlantis, The Fillmore Silver Spring, Union Stage, Songbyrd, Black Cat, DC9, and more to see what artists are in the area. Wanna do some shopping? Check out Union Market for hyper-local flair, Georgetown for everyday clothing (think H&M and Urban Outfitters), or downtown Silver Spring (Dave and Busters!). Looking for nightlife? Try U Street, Adams Morgan (for the younger crowd), or H Street. Into queer nightlife? U Street, 17th Street, and Logan Circle are for you! Our favorite bar is JR's on 17th, as well as Trade on 14th and P. Like beer? Visit local breweries/beer gardens such as Aslin, Other Half, Right Proper, Red Bear, or our host venue Silver Branch! If you're staying a while, we're close to Baltimore (about 45 minutes) so check out the Harbor or Fell's Point while you're here. We've spent several weekends in the area and love the locale.
