Travel

We’re so excited that you’ll be joining us for our special day! To make your travel plans easier, we’ve put together a list of the best airports, transportation, and car rental options.

Flight

Pisa International Airport

This airport is easiest for those traveling from Manchester (MAN), as there is a direct flight approximately 2 hrs and 20 min. HOWEVER, unfortunately they have removed the Sunday direct flights so guests will either need to take a connecting flight back if they wish to return on Sunday, or fly direct on Monday 1st of June. For our USA family and friends, there are a number of connecting flights from Philadelphia (PHL) and Newark (EWR) Airports, with total travel time ranging from 10-13 hours including layovers. Newark typically has cheaper flights! We typically advise minumum 2-hour layovers for connecting flights in case of any delays. Once you get to Pisa, you can either hire a car (approx. 1 hr 20 min drive to venue) or take the Pisa Mover Train (approx. 1 hr 20 min) which takes you into the city center of Florence.

Flight

Florence Airport

This airport is located approximately a 45 minute drive away from the venue.

Rental Car

Car Rental Italy

For those wishing to hire a car, we advise you to use Booking.com to research best prices for car rental options. You will be able to find car hire options either from the airport or city centre, whichever is most convenient! When renting a car in Italy, there are several important rules and guidelines to keep in mind to ensure a smooth and legal experience. Here are some key rules: 1) There are minimum age requirements. You must be at least 21 years old to rent a car. However, this can vary by rental company. Drivers under 25 may be subject to an additional “young driver surcharge.” 2) Driving License - EU/EEA Citizens: A valid European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) driver’s license is sufficient. - Non-EU Citizens: If you’re from outside the EU, you’ll need: - A valid international driving permit (IDP) along with your home country driver’s license. - English-speaking rental companies may also accept a valid driver’s license in English, but it’s always safer to carry an IDP just in case. 3) Mandatory Insurance: By law, all vehicles in Italy must be covered by third-party insurance (Third-Party Liability). This is typically included in the rental cost. 4) Fuel Policy - Full-to-Full: Most car rental companies use the full-to-full policy, where you pick up the car with a full tank and return it with a full tank. Make sure you check which policy your company uses. 5) Traffic Rules - there are speeding cameras everywhere, use Waze to help you spot them. 6) Many highways in Italy are toll roads. The toll is calculated based on the distance traveled, and you can pay at toll booths using cash, credit cards, or telepass devices. 7) ZTL Zones (Limited Traffic Zones): Many Italian cities have restricted zones. These are areas where non-resident vehicles are not allowed to enter during certain hours. Avoid driving into these zones as they can lead to hefty fines.
