In Buccheri, which is a small town located in the mountains in the Siracusa Province, in the southeast of Sicily.
The venue for the wedding reception is Borgo degli Ulivi, located in the countryside of Palazzolo Acreide, 20 minutes away from Buccheri. As this is a remote region we have listed recommendations of more populated cites and places to stay in the area.
If you are flying from The United States, you will look for flights to Catania Airport (CTA). From there, Buccheri and Palazzolo are an hour away by car (WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU RENT A CAR). Starting in the spring of 2025, Delta will offer direct flights from JFK to CTA.
ABSOLUTELY! This will make it easier to get around the region, visit the beaches, see other cities (see our "Things to Do" tab). There are many different car rental companies where you can arrange to pick up a car right there in the Catania airport. You can also arrange to rent a car with a friend or group of friends that are also attending the wedding.
Please keep in mind this is Sicily in August, so it will be hot. Guests should wear lighter comfortable clothes made of breathable fabrics. For men we recommend lightweight suits made of linens or light cotton; for women we recommend linen, cotton, or silk dresses, that are loose, with a flowing silhouette, or mid-length skirts with loose-fitting tops. PRIORITIZE COMFORT AND ELEGANCE. There is no color scheme to follow, but lighter colors such as pastel shades or bright colors are recommended. Buccheri is a hilly, medieval town, with a lot of steps. So choose footwear that is comfortable to walk in. The Reception will take place on a grassy lawn, so it is recommended guests avoid pointy heels.
Life in Sicily is much slower and more relaxed, especially in the summer months, following it's own unique schedule. Most shops and restaurants are closed between the hours of 1pm-4pm when most people are at home eating or enjoying a siesta. In the more populated cities, stores and restaurants may be open during lunch time. It is important to note the routine and be open to the differences in the day to day life of the Sicilian people.
We recommend you stay close between the church and the venue locations for a few days during the wedding before traveling elsewhere. The best area to look for a stay would be in Palazzolo Acreide. You may choose to stay in the center of town where there are options for dining and shops or you may choose to stay on the outskirts at a farmstay with beautiful views of the countryside. Aside from these options, we highly advise you look on Airbnb. There are some wonderful stays in the town center. We also recommend Borgo del Carato, another venue nearby. Please refer to the "Travel" page for more details on recommendations.
On your RSVP for the reception there is a meal option and all you need to decide is if you will have the Meat Menu or a Fish Menu.
