Brent’s is an easy Jewish deli located in the same center as the Hyatt Regency. It has all your Jewish deli needs and wants. Meghan’s a half-soup, half-sandwich woman (Cabbage Soup and a Tuna Sandwich on Rye). Josh enjoys the Turkey Reuben on Rye with steak fries and coleslaw on the side. Brent’s in Westlake is located in the same center as the Hyatt Regency.
Stonehaus is an Italian-inspired wine bar that offers small plates, wines by the glass and bottle, and ample outdoor seating. If you want to escape to the “Italian Riviera of the Suburbs” and indulge in a good glass of wine, Stonehaus is for you. Stonehaus is also a great spot to grab a morning coffee. It’s open early, and it’s one of the few non-chain coffee shops around. Stonehaus is about 1 mile from the Hyatt Regency and is less than a 5-minute drive.
In the mood for a heavy breakfast? Cici’s is that and more, especially if you’re into “sweet chow.” Meghan’s guilty pleasure is the Tiramisu pancakes. Josh gets the Bannamon pancakes, hold the whipped cream. Cici’s in Westlake is about 2 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 5-minute drive.
You can’t go wrong with good and reliable casual BBQ from Wood Ranch. Meghan loves the BBQ Chopped Salad, and Josh loves the Tri-Tip Sliders and the Buckeye Burger. Be sure not to fill up on the garlic rolls. Wood Ranch in Agoura is about 5 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 10-minute drive.
Highly recommended spot for a good classic Southern California donut. THESE DONUTS WERE CONSUMED THE DAY WE GOT ENGAGED! Meghan’s go-tos are the coconut raised donut and the cronut (aka a croissant-donut). Josh can eat a few of these and loves the apple fritter, the cinnamon roll donut, and the maple old fashioned. Foster’s is about 3 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 5-minute drive.
When in Southern California, you have to grab an acai bowl. SunLife is the place. Meghan’s order is the Mystic Smoothie. Josh does the Dragon Bowl and adds banana on top. SunLife in Thousand Oaks is about 3 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 5-minute drive.
Looking for some Mexican food? Los Agaves has that covered. We like to indulge in the steak nachos, but also enjoy the wet burrito and steak tacos. Los Agaves in Westlake is about 3 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 5-minute drive.
Nothing beats a good brewery. Tarantula offers over 20 beers on tap, along with pizza, sandwiches, and small bites. It’s a great spot to throw a few back over some conversation. Meghan’s a sour woman. Josh will drink and enjoy literally anything else, but loves a good pale ale, porter, or stout. Tarantula is about 4 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 10-minute drive.
Italia Deli is an Italian bakery and deli offering house-made breads and rolls and sandwiches. If you’re looking for a good Italian sandwich with no frills, this place is for you. Josh and Meghan usually split a large Italian Cold Cuts. And it rivals our go-to spot out East — Milano Market up in New York’s Upper East Side. Italia Deli is about 5 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 10-minute drive.
A Josh and Meghan favorite. SUGARFISH is a walk-in only sushi restaurant that has great fish and is quick and efficient. Get the “Trust Me.” Trust us. SUGARFISH in Calabasas is about 11 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 15-minute drive.
Katsu-ya is one of our favorite sushi spots. Meghan’s favorite is the Rock Shrimp Spicy Tuna Roll. Josh’s is the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice and the albacore sushi. Also, don’t forget to play Russian roulette with an order of the shoshito peppers. Katsu-ya in Woodland Hills is about 15 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 25-minute drive.
Looking for a half-day adventure where you can learn something new? Look no further than the Reagan Library. Perched on a mountaintop with stunning views of the surrounding mountains, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library has a repository of records from his administration, and contains documents, photographs, films, tapes, and memorabilia from Ronald Reagan's life. The Reagan Library is about 11 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 15-minute drive.
The Backbone Trail traces a rollercoaster path across the spine of the Santa Monica Mountains, traversing peaks, lush canyons, and grassy ridgelines, with views of the Pacific Ocean. Portions of it make for a gorgeous afternoon hike. Though the full trail is 67 miles, no need to hike more than a few miles if you’re looking to get outside and take advantage of the surrounding nature. The Backbone Trail’s Access at Kanan is about 12 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 15-minute drive.
As you know, we love our farmers markets. Check out the farmers market in Calabasas on Saturday from 8am to 1pm, for some fresh and local produce, ample samples, and a nice stroll. The Calabasas Farmers Market is about 12 miles from the Hyatt Regency and is about a 15-minute drive.
Nothing like hitting the links or working on your game. Westlake Golf Course is a perfect place to smack a bucket of balls or play 9 holes for any skill level. This is where Josh’s high school golf team used to practice, where he went to summer golf camp, and where Meghan played (and finished!!) her first round of golf back in 2020.
