Josey and Malik's story can actually be traced back to January 2016, on Court #3 at Southwest Rec. Josey was the scorekeeper and Malik was the Supervisor on duty. While the details are fuzzy on Malik's end, Josey remembers it clearly thanks to being shocked when Malik let out a few strong words of frustration (#!*#@%*!) after the RecSports iPad crashed on him. Fast forward to Fall 2017, when both Josey and Malik became RecSports Program Assistants (PA), alongside four others. Over time, the six PA’s became close friends. Malik was the class clown who couldn't resist goofing off (and occasionally singing loudly), while Josey was the focused one who sometimes had to pop in her earphones to tune him out. For years they stayed just friends, seeing each other at tailgates, RecSports parties, Gator Games, or more frequently the intramural fields. At one point in their friendship, they even had a marriage pact saying "if we are both single by 26 we will get married”. After years of friendship, Malik asked Josey to be his girlfriend in April 2019. Malik must have secretly been manifesting the marriage pact, because six months prior (October 7th, 2018) he took a snapchat of her working a RecSports shift with the caption “She thinks I’m kidding when I say im gonna wife her up one day” (scroll up for reciepts). After graduating in May 2020, they moved to Houston where they foster-failed their way into adopting the love of their lives – Dobby. Years later, Malik went on his first Mayer Family Vacation in Iceland where he asked Josey to be his wife on September 3rd, 2024. The proposal was perfectly chaotic, and they wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
