Things To Do

Siena

Siena

Siena, Tuscany 53100, Italy

Siena is a 30 minute drive from Chuisdino (abbey of San Galgano location) or Radicondoli (Reception location). Siena is the ultimate laid back Tuscan town wonder the old streets and grab yourself an espresso or focaccia then turn a corner or two and stumble across an ancient duomo or two glance over the right wall and watch the landscape of turscany rolling out before you. The iconic horse race the Palio di Siena around Siena old town square is starting on the 29-06-2020 for any of those who are interested. Although for those who aren’t the popularity of this famous race this may make Siena a busier place to visit.

Leaning Tower of Pisa

Leaning Tower of Pisa

Pisa, Toscana 56126, Italy

This icon was built as the bell tower for a cathedral complex known as ‘the field of miracles’ and frankly standing in its shadow you’ll see it’s a miracle it’s still standing. Subsidence caused the tower to lean half way through building in 1173, but with a shrug they decided to let construction continue and as a result the tower has become a remarkable piece of architecture. The Pisa mover leaving every 5 minutes from Pisa airport is a shuttle that can take you close to the city centre where the leaning tower is another 25 minute walk. Word to the wise anyone wishing to see this landmark and drive close to the tower some roads are resident only and if you drive down them you will be hit with €120 fine. As joe and I learned the hard way!

Florence

Florence

A show case of the Renaissance man. The museums here are bursting with the works of Da Vinci and Michelangelo as well as other key Renaissance characters. Grab a slice of pizza and walk across the famous ponte vecchio. For the culture vultures among you.

Rome

Rome

Where the term Romance was coined. You can fly directly into Rome and enjoy the sights of the colosseum and the old town then rent a car and travel up to Siena. Rome is 2.5 hour drive from Siena.
