Joseph and Lauryn met at Mount Marty University. Their meeting was inevitable on such a small campus considering how many overlapping activities and interests they shared, such as theatre, choir, nursing classes, and student leadership clubs. However, the main reason they started spending countless hours together was an even stronger common interest: each other. During a shared history class, Joey noticed Ryn to be a kind, compassionate, and beautiful person. After rehearsal finished for a play-reading they were in together, Joey asked ‘the group’ if they would want to go for a hike. Ryn excitedly agreed, which he took as a sign she liked him… later, on the group hike, Joey realized she was just excited because she loves to hike. That said, she did agree to going kayaking with him. For whatever the reason, they kept going to events and kept being the last two people hanging out. One date on which they started walking at 10pm ended with them talking on a bench. Upon checking the time, they realized it was 2am! As they officially started dating, the days turned into weeks which turned into years. Leading up to their 1,000 day anniversary, Joey took Lauryn on a trip to Lake Superior where they kayaked and hiked the shoreline. On that Saturday, July 27th, 2024, they went to pick blueberries in an orchard. When she turned around with blueberries in hand, Joe was kneeling with a hand-picked ring and asked her to turn their “now” into “forever.”
