I remember very clearly my first glimpse of Jpeg (née Joselyn). I had moved to Pittsburgh with no friends, and was working remotely (before that was cool). I looked out the window and saw the coolest looking girl boppin’ along in a great outfit, with purple hair and an adorable tiny pup, and thought: I HAVE to be best friends with her. I kept hoping to run into her and somehow subtly strike up a friendship. Unfortunately, I ended up running into her while I was holding an incredibly un-subtle ENORMOUS Long Island Cheese Pumpkin, but thankfully it worked. We were instant gal pals for life. Jpeg and I have gone on to travel the world, host an award-winning, “bafflingly listenable” podcast, and laugh more than is physically comfortable.

the first few photos that i can find of joselyn and i together are blurry, blown out, overexposed, and so saturated—and pretty much a perfect record of those days. everything was dizzy and sparkling, our arms full of champagne bottles, kisses landing on cheeks and foreheads, dancing in the street and holding hands in the backseat. the first time i met joselyn—outside of the movie theater at UNCW—it felt like meeting a celebrity who also somehow made me feel like a star. i knew then that i’d follow her anywhere, or take her with me wherever i went. from wilmington, to austin, to new york city, back to north carolina, to the moon, to another dimension, forever.

On the night I met Joselyn, a literal burst of energetic sunshine flooded into my life. ✨ That day, through a magical creative event, I met like six other special friends. Jos has been my sparkliest star ever since! Owen, of course, managed to seamlessly sequin pants dance himself into the crew 🕺🏻, and I couldn’t be happier he did! I love these two so much!
