How we met

In typical millennial style, Alexia and Jose met on a social media dating application, formally known as Hinge, in October 2019. Every user on Hinge creates a profile, which includes pictures and responses to questions that represents the user’s values and interests. Any interested individual can “like” the others response/picture to initiate a connection; where it is either denied or accepted by the receiving party. Alexia was in Chicago visiting some of her closest friends to attend the Northwestern vs Ohio state football game. To celebrate a convincing Ohio State victory against “The Nerds”, Alexia and her friends decided to head to the bar, Parrots, a hole-in-wall dive bar nestled in the outskirts of Chicago. After a few drinks and laughs, Alexia shared her frustration with her dating life. In response, TJ and Kate, took over Alexia’s Hinge account to start swiping on some prospects. A few swipes later, Jose popped up. “His name is like Jose Cuervo and I like tequila” “He has a dog in his picture” Those were the validating comments that were enough to get the “like” which was the start of a lifelong connection. Jose had received the notification that “Alexia” had liked one of his pictures in which he had accepted and responded. She wasted no time in requesting a drink date the following week. They decided to meet at Lincoln Social, an upscale rooftop bar that overlooks the city of Columbus on October 24, 2019. Within 3 minutes of meeting, Alexia had blurted out “you know im Cuban right?! I know I don’t look like it, but look at my license! HERNANDEZ. HA” After several months of dating, Alexia and Jose, like the rest of the world, were challenged with the pandemic. Even throughout difficult, unprecedented and uncertain times, Alexia and Jose found solitude within each other. It was the combination of being there for each other, fun nights out with friends, and traveling together, that Jose knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.
