Back in the good ol' days of covid times (February 2021), Joscelyn "matched" with Eric on the dating app "Hinge." For the more senior folks reading this tale, it would be like the new "eharmony" or "plenty of fish," at least we think- we were both just toddlers when those websites were popular. Anyways, Joscelyn and Eric messaged back and forth a bit, and then Eric decided he was going to log off of the Hinge app (if anyone reading this has ever had any of the dating apps, you know how blah they can be). However, before leaving the app, he decided to go into the chat with Joscelyn, to give her his number, and to let her know to reach out and text in case she was interested in going on a date ever (she was). He sends his message saying he would be deleting the app, feeling not super eager about the "online dating world," and sends his number. Much to his dismay, (he didn't find this out until later,) once deleting the app, it also simultaneously deletes all of your conversations on the other end, so although Joscelyn saw this message pop up, she was never able to open it. Once Eric deleted the app, any conversations vanished with it, so Eric's phone number went poof! Into the abyss of the online dating world. Without Eric's number, all she had known left of him was that she knew he lived in Port Moody, she knew he was an rcmp officer, and she knew his first name (good luck to anyone trying to find a guy named "Eric" with no known last name on social media...). Oh, she also knew he had the most French Canadian cop moustache she had ever seen, but... a cop with a moustache? Groundbreaking. As Joscelyn worked in Port Moody at the time, she would often go on walks on her lunch hour with coworkers, and still wondered if one day she might casually walk past "Port Moody Eric with the moustache from Hinge." But that was it, the idea of "Eric from Hinge," was sort of just left as a "to be continued." Funny enough, Eric would spend the next several months sort of doing the same thing. He knew she was a teacher in Port Moody, and luckily for him, she had a slightly less common first name (easier to stalk online, shout out to Sharon for the unique spelling of Joscelyn). Eric was then able to use his detective skills to figure out the school she worked at (classic cop behaviour), but decided acting on anything would come across sort of creepy... so the idea of "Joscelyn the teacher from Hinge" was also left floating in the universe, as a "to be continued." Several months pass by and on Canada Day, July 1st, Joscelyn randomly logged into her hinge account, only to see the very first person pop up on her home screen with the notification "Recently joined." Surprise surprise, Eric with the moustache, the RCMP officer from New Brunswick was back. It was an instant match for both of them, and they had their very first date that evening getting tacos at Livelyhood in Port Moody. Joscelyn basically moved into Eric's condo that same week... just kidding! But it certainly wasn't long after. As they say, when you know, you know! The rest was history! A modern day love story. Hinge, we're ready for our payout now :D.
