Because this is an evening, winter wedding in one of New Orleans’ most historic cathedrals, we ask that our guests follow a Formal-Black Tie Optional dress code. This allows guests to choose between a tuxedo or a formal dark suit for men. Women can wear a floor-length gown, a dressy cocktail dress, or a tailored suit. We don’t want to stress anyone out about a dress code! It would be best to opt for something more formal. And remember, we will be second lining after the ceremony so wear broken-in shoes!
One of the most popular traditions during New Orleans weddings is the famous second line parade. A Brass band leads the bridal party and the guests from the ceremony on a pre-planned route. A second line parade has two parts. The first line is usually a brass band and the ones being honored, the newlyweds. The newly married couple leads the second line holding uniquely decorated umbrellas or parasols. All of the guests who want to join in the celebration make up the second line. The guests form a line behind the band and the newly married couple dance to lively music with handkerchiefs in hand! The handkerchiefs will be provided post-ceremony.
There will absolutely be another option for those that can’t walk the second line. More information will be shared once this is solidified.
No! Our route likely will not cover the full seven blocks from the cathedral to the reception venue. There will be a bus provided for immediate family and bridal party at the end of the route. All other guests should utilize ride share services or their own vehicles. Guests can also choose to walk the remainder of the route to the venue.
Yes, we will be having a full Catholic mass that should last approximately an hour. We are aware many guests may not practice Catholicism. Please see the next question for what to do during mass as a non-Catholic!
It will be pretty easy for you to follow along, as most of the groom’s side practice Catholicism and you can follow their lead. When they stand, you stand! When they kneel, you can choose to kneel or sit on the pew. There will be a program that outlines the full mass. The part of mass known as “Communion” invites Catholics to partake in receiving the Eucharist, and non Catholics are invited to receive a blessing. If you do choose to go, you should file into the line, cross your arms in an “X” like position across your chest, and the priest will pray over you. You can then return to your seat.
While we love all of your children dearly, this is an adult only wedding except for children that are personally invited by the bride and groom.
