Telluride Town sits at the end of a box canyon and is the more populated area full of bars, restaurants and activities. Mountain Village sits atop Town, accessible via complimentary gondola rides or car from Town and is the newer area of Telluride and has deluxe accommodations and restaurants.
Telluride is known for its mountain lifestyle so casual comfort is key. The temperature could change from warm during the day to cooler temperatures in the morning and evening. So we recommend bringing layers of clothing so you can adjust your comfort throughout the day as needed. July is the rainy season so pack an umbrella for those potential afternoon showers which often result in gorgeous rainbow and sunsets.
The town of Telluride is situated at 8,750 feet. Mountain Village is even higher with accommodations between 9,400-10,000 feet. This means there is 30% less oxygen in the air in Telluride than at sea level. We recommend staying hydrated. Even before you leave home, be sure to drink lots of water! Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) should also help. Please call the Telluride Medical Center, (970) 728-3848 if you are worried about your symptoms. It is important to not ignore any of these symptoms.
If you are experiencing some minor altitude effects such as a headache or stomachache, Sunshine Pharmacy is located on Main Street and has everything you might need.
However, if you plan to bring children for your trip please consider https://telluridesitters.com/ for childcare and to rent items like strollers and toys.
The Telluride /Mountain Village Gondola runs daily from 7am to 12 midnight (2am on Friday & Saturday) and there is no charge.
