Richmond's premier Jewish brunch spot and longtime upscale deli. The matzo ball soup is a must-try, along with the corned beef hash with poached eggs.
A great spot to grab an early morning baguette and a cup of coffee, Idle Hands is THE neighborhood pastry/bread shop in The Fan. Located on burgeoning Strawberry Street, Idle Hands is surrounded by beloved shops like Scoop ice cream and 8 1/2 pizza shop. Idle Hands thrives on creative handmade pastries and breads. Whether it's their freshly made baguettes (that sell out quickly every morning), their dynamite almond croissants, or their fresh blackberry cheese danishes, they always deliver. They even have creative concepts like a croissant cube that rotates and is usually stuffed with some kind of cream or nutella and various savory pastries and sourdough breads. For ambitious bread heads they have sourdough pizza dough for purchase as well for at-home baking.
The Byrd Theater is the quintessential movie palace. A Richmond mainstay and historic landmark, The Byrd Theater opened its doors in 1928 and has been showing great movies ever since! You can currently catch a selection of classic movies and first-run hits at The Byrd for $9 a ticket. The theater will have completed a complete renovation of its seats by fall of 2025. The theater is also host to one of the few remaining Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organs, played masterfully at each showing by the incomparable Bob Gulledge.
A lot of places claim Edgar Allen Poe as their own and *spoiler alert* so does Richmond, Virginia. The Poe Museum is in the oldest residential building still standing in Richmond. Explore the story of Poe's life, time in Richmond, and the mysterious circumstances of his death.
The Science Museum of Virginia is just amazing! With exhibits built to be interactive for children and adults alike, the museum has something for everyone. It is in a converted historic train station, and the architectural elements of the building are *chef's kiss*!
Uliveto has some of the best pasta in town! All their pasta is made fresh in-house and they've got great wine pairings and cocktails as well. Whether you like mussels with white wine and garlic, linguini with shrimp and artichokes, or a whole branzino, they've got something to keep everyone happy. They also have great desserts!
This place is one of our favorite restaurants in town. They've got french food with custom charcuterie boards available as an appetizer and get great steak frites. Grisette has a great atmosphere and wonderful bread baked in-house. A bit of a hike by Uber, Grisette is in Richmond's historic Church Hill neighborhood. Right across the street is an amazing seafood restaurant called Alewife.
