One of our favorite things to do in Newport is explore the many historic mansions. During the Gilded Age, Newport, RI was the summer playground of America’s wealthiest and it has plenty of still-standing mansions that live to tell the tale. The mansions are open daily for self guided tours and full access to the grounds. These meticulously preserved homes are amazing time capsules that transport you back in time and in our opinion are a must see on your trip to Newport! Tickets and more information can be found by visiting https://www.newportmansions.org
Another favorite activity of ours is Gansett Cruises. Gansett offers one and a half hour narrated harbor boat tours and sunset cruises on Narragansett Bay. Cruise in comfort as you enjoy a scenic tour of Newport and Jamestown. Sip on Rhode Island’s favorite cocktails, mocktails, beer, wine, and more while you cruise. Complimentary & cash bar options available on each cruise. https://gansettcruises.com/
The Cliff Walk along the eastern shore of Newport, RI is world famous as a public access walk that combines the natural beauty of the Newport shoreline with the architectural history of Newport's gilded age. Wildflowers, birds, geology ... all add to this walk.
"10 miles of commanding coastline meets one winding road on Newport’s iconic Ocean Drive. Start your journey just off historic Bellevue Avenue and continue along for an undeniably tranquil journey with heart-stopping views. You’ll pass by Gilded Age mansions, Hammersmith Farm where Jackie Kennedy grew up, Brenton Point State Park, Fort Adams State Park, and Gooseberry Beach, a favorite summertime spot. Don’t forget to roll the windows down to catch the soothing sound of rippling waves meeting the shoreline."
