For folks traveling from Boston/New England, check out Allegiant Airlines for direct flights to/from Knoxville. Another option would be to fly Allegiant direct to Asheville, NC, rent a car, and drive to Knoxville from there.
Otherwise, just look for the best deals! :)
In terms of daily travel, rideshares (i.e. Lyft/Uber) are readily available in Knoxville including rides to/from the airport. It may be helpful to book early AM rides in advance, though.
