The story begins on Friday, July 27, 2007, when David and Jordan first met in her sister’s apartment in Baltimore, Maryland to celebrate Jordan’s 21st birthday. She and her best friend trekked I-495 and I-295 from Woodbridge, Virginia through hours of traffic, a stalled vehicle, a tow truck ride to the Metro station, and a cab ride to make it to their destination. Clearly, nothing was going to stop destiny’s plan. While out and about the city of Baltimore, David and Jordan connected and exchanged phone numbers. For about a year, they had a long-distance relationship that ended amicably…it was not a denial of destiny; rather, a whispered promise suspended in time.
Between 2008 and 2019, David and Jordan would cross paths multiple times hanging with some of the same friend circles. Finally, in the pandemic summer of 2020, during the inaugural book club session, David and Jordan’s paths crossed once again. While running an errand together for book club, they had a chance to talk...resulting in a second first date being planned for the next week. July 2020 proved to be an auspicious start of a rekindled romance.
On July 25, 2023, two days before Jordan’s birthday, the couple traveled to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia - a place that has been on Jordan’s traveling wish list since high school. There, they hiked a peaceful trail, stopping at the summit overlooking a gorgeous view of the Potomac River nestled between the trees. As usual on their hikes, David asked a fellow hiker to take a picture of them…at least, this is what Jordan thought. In actuality, while Jordan was in awe of the view and her back was to David and the hiker, he had asked the hiker to record the proposal that was about to take place. David returned to Jordan’s side, and while she waited patiently to pose, David said he needed to tie his shoe. On bended knee, David asked the question that would seal destiny’s fate and their commitment to each other: “Jordan-Brittany Cook, will you marry me?”
