Our favorite Charleston beach! Small beach town vibes. Plenty of places to sit outside to eat. Turn either right or left off of Folly Rd onto Arctic Ave and keep driving in either direction to find parts of the beach that are less crowded. You don’t have to pay to park! You can park on the side of the street as long as all four tires are off the pavement, your car is facing the direction of traffic, at least 20’ from intersections, not blocking driveways, etc. Please visit their website for more details!!! Effective through October 14th, there are parking restrictions on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays- you may only park on Arctic Ave outside of the commercial district. You can also pay to park in a lot. PLEASE NOTE: no large gatherings on the beach- groups limited to family/household. There is also a mask mandate in place. Please check out their website for more rules and regulations. They are very active in giving out tickets and citations to those violating these rules.
One of our favorites things to do is simply walk around downtown Charleston. The Battery is a fortified sea wall surrounding the southernmost tip of the peninsula where the Cooper River and the Ashley River meet. Today the Battery is lined with beautiful historic homes. White Point Garden could be considered the centerpiece of the Battery promenade.
Estimated to be at least 400 years old, the Angel Oak on Johns Island is the most venerated of the Lowcountry’s magnificent live oaks.
If you’re looking for some dining on the water, Shem Creek hosts several restaurants and bars with both indoor and outdoor seating that are accessible by either car or boat. Tavern and Table is a favorite of ours. Great atmosphere and views!
