Oahu is the island we are getting married on in a small town on the east side called Laie. Please see the next question on how to travel there.
We suggest breaking up your flight with at least two layovers to Honolulu which is the capital of Oahu (HNL= airport code) so you do not have to fly for 12 hours straight (helps avoid “cankles”!😂). However to each their own, so go for the long haul if ya want less stops! We typically fly from Wilmington (ILM) or Raleigh (RDU) and have a layover in Charlotte (CLT), Dallas (DFW) or Los Angeles (LAX) before we land in Honolulu (HNL).
YES!! Oahu has so many beautiful beaches and hikes so we definitely suggest renting a car so you can explore the entire island. We typically use kayak or a similar search engine to find the cheapest option. Renting from the airport is very convenient so you do not have to worry about a shuttle and can just drive up to return when it's time to sadly depart.
Right now they are the cheapest we've seen them....ever. It's typically more than $800 round trip but we've seen them as low as $550 lately, so book asap if you can. They will definitely increase after Thanksgiving and Christmas.
It’s usually $100-$130 round trip and most islands are only a 45 min to an hour flight. We highly suggest hopping over to another island while you’re out there if you can!😎
3pm on 2/22/20 at Tiki Moon Villas located at 55-367 Kamehameha Hwy Laie, Hawaii 96762 (you can type Tiki Moon Villas into your GPS and it will lead you right to the property). It is located across the street from the Polynesian Cultural Center and The Marriott hotel.
Laie, the town name where we are getting married, has three syllables and is pronounced like this: La, then the letter e, then the letter a. (La – eee – eh)
We've listed a few places to stay that are close to the wedding venue on 2/22 under the travel tab of our website. As we've mentioned through out the website, Hawaii has decided to ban short-term rentals (AirBnB/VRBO) which is horrible timing for our guests as those accommodations are much more affordable. We've been told that you can still book but it's a risk as they're getting canceled left and right because the owners do not want to incur the fine. We've also heard through the grapevine that it is permitted on the resort TurtleBay so perhaps check out that location on the app VRBO at your discretion. If you are able and have some extra time, we strongly suggest exploring some other islands or other parts of Oahu while you're out there!! Please do not hesitate to reach out to Jonathan and McKenzie for any assistance or travel questions. Happy to help!
It's part of the USA so no passport is needed, however if you do have one it's great to bring as a backup. The real ID rule will not be enforced until October 2020 so don't fret - just make sure your ID is not expired (again, always great to bring your passport as a back up JUST incase you lose your ID!)
If you know your plans please let us know ASAP so we can better coordinate with our vendors in HI. However, please let us know by January 10th. We look forward to celebrating with you in HI or NC! :)
