Grand Rapids known as “Beer City, USA” and was recognized by USA Today as the best beer city in the US for three years in a row! Exploring the local breweries is a great way to spend an afternoon, our favorites being New Holland Brewing, Founders and Brewery Vivant.
Downtown GR is very walkable, the River walk and blue bridge are classic Grand Rapids and a unique vantage point of the city.
For those traveling with kids, the John Ball Zoo and Grand Rapids Children’s Museum are great family outings.
There is plenty of shopping. The area around on Wealthy Street is known for unique boutiques and coffee shops, and one of Lucy’s favorite spots. Wealthy Street's boutiques can be found from the intersection at Union Ave SE, to Eastern Ave SE.
One of our favorite parts of Southwest Michigan are the lakeside towns on Lake Michigan. If you have never seen the Lake Michigan beaches, they are worth a drive. A few of our favorites are Saugatuck, Holland and Grand Haven. Saugatuck Dunes State Park is my favorite if you're looking for a short hike and a quiet and tranquil beach experience. These towns are about an hour to 1.5 hours drive from GR.
