During VCU's 2019 Summer Academic Enrichment Program, Jonathan was studying on a Friday night when suddenly, a familiar face from his cohort came into the study room and asked "what are you doing up so late?" After their short interaction, Kaylah went to a different room and began doing some studying of her own. After thinking about whether or not he should continue the conversation, Jonathan mustered up the courage and walked next door into the room where Kaylah was studying. At 3am, the two realized just how much time had passed after conversing for over four hours about everything under the sun and how much they had in common. After the 6-week program came to a close, the two kept in touch for another 7 months until Jonathan finally asked Kaylah to be his girlfriend in February of 2020.

During their graduation photoshoot, Jonathan and Kaylah took photos at several locations where they spent most of their time as Physical Therapy students. As the sun began to set, Kaylah wondered why Jonathan insisted on going to Monroe Park to conclude their photoshoot. As the couple arrived and began walking into the park, Kaylah eventually noticed that the words "MARRY ME" were shining in bright lights near the fountain. What she didn't notice at the time was that both her and Jonathan's parents were also hidden close by to witness the beautiful moment. Monroe Park holds a special place in the couple's life as it is the location of their first date, where in 2019 after having some pizza and cookies, they sat and talked for hours as their summer program came to a close. The proposal is a day the two will never forget, and also the beginning of the road to #TheMACKtrimony, that we cannot wait to celebrate with all of you!
