Santa Catarina Palopó--Walk-around
Reachable by launch, Santa Catarina is known for its brightly painted geometric houses based on weaving patterns of Huipils. San Antonio Palopó, a neighboring town, has some amazing pottery. There are museums and a " mirador" or overlook. Empanadas Terrazas del Lago Hotel will furnish the empanadas!

Bird Watching Santa Cruz and Santiago
Walk on the Tzansiguan Trail. Most of the birding trails are used by locals to cultivate coffee, avocado and other fruit trees. The Lake Atitlan Area is home to many great birds species: Blue-and-White Mockingbird, Blue-throated Motmot Prevost's Ground-Sparrow, Rufous Sabrewing hummingbird, and even the endemic Belted Flycatcher, Slate-throated Redstart, Azure Crowned hummingbird among many others.
