Birding Options--Searching for the mythic Quetzal: Tzansiguan Trail.

Walk on the Tzansiguan Trail. Most of the birding trails are used by locals to cultivate coffee, avocado and other fruit trees. The Lake Atitlan Area is home to several great birds like the Blue-and-White Mockingbird, Blue-throated Motmot Prevost's Ground-Sparrow, Rufous Sabrewing hummingbird, endemic Belted Flycatcher, Slate-throated Redstart, Azure Crowned hummingbird and many other great bird species. Start the tour from Santa Cruz and head to San Marcos la Laguna, a tranquil village to appreciate nature. The second stop will be in San Juan la Laguna, a place known for its bright-colored textiles and its exquisite art. Continue to San Pedro la Laguna to visit its bustling local market and its church. Eat lunch before finishing tour with Santiago Atitlan, which is the biggest town of Atitlan’s area. Return to Santa Cruz. Approximately 4-6 hours. $75-85/pp
