Jon purchased Rebekah's engagement and wedding rings here, custom-made by Rebekah's friend Katherine Cotterill, who manages the gallery. Rebekah also purchased Jon's ring here, by designer Alishan Halebian at his trunk show hosted by the gallery. EAT Gallery is owned by Simon Watt, who hails from London, UK and studied at Douai Abbey in Woolhampton before being dismissed therefrom following a fight at The Plough in Thatcham. Stop by to see unique art, gemstones, and jewelry from around Kentucky and around the world (including silk shawls from Cornwall, and pieces made by Simon's sister in Hungerford, UK).
The quilt shop is one of Rebekah's favorite places, and is owned by her friend and former Academic Team coach, Mary Honaker. Rebekah's friend, Andrea, also works in the shop and exudes badassery as she fixes machines and runs the longarm quilter. Andrea introduced Rebekah to quilting, as a drug dealer might offer a free hit to hook new customers. In addition to fabric, the shop carries sewing notions and decor. Someone usually has a Diet Pepsi if none can be found elsewhere in town. Snark abounds.
Merle Norman is owned by Rebekah and Jon's friend Amy. In addition to makeup, the shop offers jewelry, decor, and Vera Bradley handbags and accessories, which are popular in the United States, particularly in the south. Amy hosts free express facials, and the Lavender Ginseng hydrating facial is Rebekah's favorite. No one will judge you if you bring your own pre-facial vodka tonic.
Our local museum, with an impressive miniatures collection (including a replica of the Spencer House in London), exhibits on Maysville's history (including Rosemary Clooney and a giant mammoth tusk), and seasonal exhibits. Next door is the Old Pogue Experience, which is a large exhibit on the bourbon distilled in Maysville. They offer bourbon and rye tastings for $5. (At $120 per bottle, it's well worth a taste! - Jon)
This shop holds a special place in the couple's hearts. The table in the corner is where they first said "I love you," before Jon left Kentucky for the first time. On Jon's second visit, the couple tasted wedding cakes to plan for the big day. Sprinkles of Hope is important to our community as well. They are a non-profit organization formed in 2016 as a bakery that focuses on employing individuals with disabilities. When Sprinkles of Hope moved into the former "Downtown Store" building in 2019, they kept the store's deli and grill menu, as well as grillmasters Patty and Glenda, who make the best deli sandwiches in town. Ask Ms. Patty for a grilled cheese (Kate's favorite). Sprinkles of Hope, Inc. will be baking the couple's wedding cake.
Located just below Parc Cafe, Limestone Park is where the couple took their first selfie on July 4, 2019, Jon's first day in Kentucky.
Across from Limestone Park, through the flood wall and along the riverbank is Limestone Landing. The couple watched fireworks here on July 4, 2019. Kate likes to throw rocks into the river.
