It was the summer of 2022, and Mary was on her annual cabin trip with her friends. One of Mary's bridesmaids, Jess Dybdahl, brought up her cousin Justin in conversation and mentioned that the two should meet, saying he "has similar morals, loves dogs, has a great job, drives a nice truck, and has his stuff together." At the time, the idea of them dating was set aside- until one day, the two started talking online. They chatted for about two weeks before Justin said, "This is stupid, I'm coming to visit you." Justin had family in South Haven, Michigan, and claimed he was making the trip to see them (but Mary knew the truth). They met for the first time at Midway Airport around 2 a.m. after Justin experienced some flight delays. Mary showed him around her hometown and even introduced him to her parents the very next day because she knew this was going to be more than just a visit to Michigan. Mary and Justin did long-distance for an entire year, seeing each other every two to three weeks. After about a year of dating, Mary’s mom’s cancer diagnosis became more aggressive, and Justin didn’t hesitate to move to Michigan, where he supported Mary and her family... a gesture she will never forget. Today, they share a home (and a very loved Golden Retriever named Tucker) and often laugh about how they searched for “the one” close to home, only to find each other halfway across the country. Everything truly came full circle when Justin asked Mary to marry him at the Morphey family cabin, at the end of the dock, which happened to be the place where Mary first heard about Justin.
