Travel Note
Frederick is our nearest big town and it's where we are getting married. There is a lot to do in this cute, historic town -- think walks along Carroll Creek, shopping in independent shops, enjoying local craft brews, visiting galleries and artists, and dining at locally-owned restaurants. Frederick was settled pre-Revolutionary War, and has been a major crossroads since then. It boasts some of the richest history in this area, from Hessian barracks to Civil War action (our venue was temporarily converted into a Civil War hospital after the nearby Battle of Antietam in 1862). Frederick was briefly Maryland's capital city in 1861.
Hotel
This is our wedding venue! It's also very close to downtown Frederick, which is chocka with dining and shopping. We'd love for you to stay on site to take part in all the shenanigans. ;) Rooms are available in our room block, first come first serve.

Travel Note
DC is about an hour south of Frederick - it is best if you have a rental car! The closest metro stop to Frederick is Shady Grove (straight down I-270), however that is still an hour's ride. Things to do in DC include the Smithsonian Museums (free to visit), the Holocaust Museum, Spy Museum, the Tidal Basin, the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Korean and Vietnam war memorials, and exploring the various neighbourhoods. Alexandria (on the blue/yellow line) and Georgetown (nearest metro is Foggy Bottom-GWU - blue/orange/silver lines) are two we recommend.
Travel Note
If you are interested in any walking tours of DC, Context Travel offers some really nice options! Sarah highly recommends them -- she does a Context tour in almost every city she visits and has never had a bad one (and clients love them too!)
Hotel
A great hotel in Old Town Alexandria. If interested in booking, let Sarah know, as it is part of her preferred partner portfolio and she may be able to extend amenities if she books it for you!

The Thompson DC is located at Navy Yard, a vibrant multi-use district in downtown. Embark on a bike adventure along the scenic Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, immerse yourself in the wonders of nearby Smithsonian Museums and take a leisurely stroll along the iconic National Mall or catch a baseball game at Nationals Park. If interested in booking this, please let Sarah know as she can extend amenities here through her preferred partner channels.
Travel Note
Gettysburg is 30 minutes north of Frederick; a car is necessary if you want to visit. While most known for the battlefields (a driving tour takes about 2-3 hours), the town has some great restaurants and shops. Gettysburg also has a lot of local breweries and orchards in the surrounding area. Below are some of our favourite places in Gettysburg and its surrounds.
Travel Note
Sign of the Buck is located underneath the Union Hotel on Chambersburg St. It has a small menu of seasonal dishes. We love the pretzel rolls, and if gnocchi is on the menu - get it!
Travel Note
The Dobbin House is the oldest building in Gettysburg, having been built over a spring in 1776. They have a small cellar tavern and an upstairs fine dining restaurant (reservations recommended). Their French onion soup is one of the best we've ever tasted. Expect a wait for the tavern, as it is incredibly popular.
