It began on the dance floor

more or less

I admired John from afar while never really mustering up the courage to talk to him when we both worked at Hume Lake Christian Camp. John and I worked in different departments at camp, so our paths never crossed. Three months pass, and I end up seeing John at my cousin’s wedding. Amongst the shock and surprise that the cool and attractive Hume guy was at the wedding, John started talking to me and we began to hit it off. With John's continual persistence in flying out to Grand Rapids, FaceTime calls, more trips to Hume, and lots of letter writing, two years pass and the end of long distance was in sight. After lots of prayer, God opened the doors for me to move to San Diego. A year of me living here passed, John proposed, I said yes, and here we are! Now from my perspective [John]... I found out after the summer at Hume in 2015 that my brother's wive's Grandma, Marilyn was scheming with her sister-in-law, Karen trying to set me up with Karen's granddaughter who was also working up at Hume. Hard to follow? I agree... but rest assured Rachel and I are in no way related. I was intrigued by the Grandmas' plot to set us up so I looked into this Rachel girl. Upon some searching on social medias, my intrigue turned to excitement. I found out she was going to be at my friend's wedding so I prepared to make my move. Naturally it was on the dance floor. At the time I didn't know what I was in for, but looking back over the long distance, flights, letters, phone calls, etc I wouldn't change a thing. We continued to progress yet Rachel was unsure about the whole boyfriend/girlfriend thing after never dating anyone before which may have slowed me, but never stopped me. She reluctantly agreed to be my girlfriend (only after turning me down 3 previous times). Eventually she moved out to San Diego, I proposed, and now we're getting married.

For all the days along the way
