In the midst of news of a global pandemic, it was less than four months away from our big day in 2020 when we were hit with the realization that life as we knew it wasn't going to be the same for the foreseeable future. Bridal showers, bachelor/ette parties, and all of the exciting activities and preparations leading up to the biggest day of our lives were cancelled as we witnessed the world around us spiral into an era of uncertainty for what the future would hold. As answers about this virus and its future were still highly unknown, we knew one thing for certain: we were madly in love and didn't want to wait another year to officially begin our lives. So, we decided to tie the knot in Chicago in the company of our closest family and friends on our original scheduled wedding day, July 18, 2020. We scrambled with our vendors and venue to arrange postponing our large reception to July 2021, and in tandem, arranged a small ceremony and reception for July 2020. We quite literally showed up at a public park located on the Chicago River with our officiant (and brother-in-law), Alastair Cox, and close family and friends on a beautiful July day where we held an unforgettable, intimate ceremony to officially become Mr. and Mrs. John and Kate DeChant! While our wedding last year was incredibly special, it was just a taste of what we'd been looking forward to for close to two years now. We can't wait to celebrate with all of our family and friends in 2021. Thanks for all of the support, love, and encouragement along the way. Here's to a healthier, happier year. See you soon!

We had planned a trip to Italy for May-June 2019. John had suggested that he plan the first half and I plan the latter half. Our second to last day in Positano, the weather had finally turned around and John recommended that we take some pictures while the view was clear. While I ran downstairs, John secretly set up his iPhone and his Nikon in the trees in order to get the perfect shot. When I arrived back upstairs, he took my hands in his and said some of the sweetest words I have ever heard. Then, he got down on one knee, and proposed! It was the best day of our lives thus far and we're so excited to celebrate this next chapter with you. See you in Chicago!
