“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.” ― Jack Kerouac

After flying into SFO, you have a couple different routes. The drive is about three to four hours if you take the quickest route (inland). Here's the way to do that:
Take 101 N to CA 128 W to Highway 1 going North. 128 will take you through Anderson Valley. Stops along the way include Healdsburg off 101 (the best wine town in CA) and Anderson Valley Brewing Company (scenic spot for a barley soda).
The longer route, which you may want to break up, is to take Highway 1 the whole way along the coast. It's incredible. Stops include Stinson Beach, Point Reyes Station, Bodega Bay, Jenner and Sea Ranch (in order if you're traveling North, and all worth a visit).
Lodging recs for the drive up: The Lodge at Bodega Bay (Bodega), Timber Cove Resort (Jenner), Sea Ranch Lodge (Sea Ranch).
