FAQs

Question

Where should I park?

Answer

Parking throughout Golden Gate Park is free. The road adjacent to the wedding picnic site is MLK Drive, which is a long road throughout the park with lots of parking. You will also find parking along other roads in the park, including parts of JFK Drive and smaller connecting roads. If you can't find parking near the picnic site, park at the next nearest location and walk over. The park is quite walkable and pedestrian-friendly!

Question

What Should I Bring?

Answer

The ceremony will be held in a large picnic area in Golden Gate Park, at noon. The dress code is picnic-casual. Please feel free to wear whatever you would wear to a casual day at the park with your friends -- flip flops, sun dresses, t-shirts, jeans, shorts, hats, khakis, track suits -- all of these, and more, are fine! It is a come-as-you-are situation :) At ceremony time, there will be ~90 chairs and ~15 picnic blankets from our vendors set up facing the bride and groom. Much of this seating area will have shade cover, but not all of it. We will also have some outdoor umbrellas. LOCAL GUESTS: We will depend on many of you to bring your own picnic gear, such as blankets, umbrellas, and lawn chairs. There will be a lot of space for extra picnic settings on the lawn. The layout will be flexible, and people will be free to move around and sit where & with whom they would like. Please visit https://tinyurl.com/fong-palowitch-info to let us know if you plan to bring your own picnic gear. After the ceremony, we will have the picnic area for 4 hours of food, drink, games, and general hanging & sparkling conversation! There will be both on-site picnic tables and temporary portable tables for sitting. Weather-wise, expect a mix of sun and clouds, with a temperature in the range 65°F-80°F. Some items to consider bringing: - Sunscreen - Jacket - Hand-held sun umbrella Local guests only: - Board Games / Lawn Games - Lawn Chair / Picnic Blanket / Umbrella

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

A quick search for "hotels in SF" on Google Maps will show you that there are three main clusters of hotels in the city. Here they are, with a few notes: (1) Fisherman's Wharf: This is a classic tourist destination. It is extremely close to the rehearsal dinner (in Ghirardelli Square), and a 15-minute cab ride to the ceremony location. (2) Lombard St (Marina District): For some reason, Lombard St west of the famous "curvy" section is dotted with comfortable inns and hotels. It is a beautiful area with easy access to the Marina shoreline, including Fort Mason and Chrissy Field. This area is a bit farther from the rehearsal dinner and a bit closer to the ceremony site. (3) Downtown (Tenderloin and Union Square): There are over 100 hotels between Kearny and Leavenworth north of Market. We don't recommend staying at any of them. This location is farthest from both the rehearsal dinner and wedding site, and is probably the "roughest" area of the city. Outside of these three locations, you will find random inns and hotels in otherwise heavily residential or historic districts. If you'd like to stay closer to the ceremony site than the three districts listed above, we recommend Inner Sunset or the Richmond.
