FAQs

If you have any other questions other than what we've listed here, please reach out directly to Johanna.
Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

If your invitation says “and Guest,” then yes, if not, we would prefer if it was just you. Please let us know ASAP if you believe there's been a mistake (i.e., spouse, long-term significant other).

Question

Will there be transportation from the ceremony site to the reception venue?

Answer

Guests will be responsible for their own transportation between the ceremony site and reception venue which is a 30 minute drive. If you're coming from out of town, we recommend booking a rental car.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony / reception?

Answer

There are 93 parking spaces available at Hakone Gardens for the ceremony. Any cars that arrive after the spaces are filled will be turned away. While we don't expect to reach all 93 spots, we strongly encourage you to carpool where possible! There is plenty of parking available at Dynasty Restaurant for the reception.

Question

Should I consider taking UBER/LYFT?

Answer

We strongly recommend driving yourself to and from the ceremony as there will be poor reception at Hakone Gardens to hail UBER/LYFT. To encourage drinking responsibly, $20 Uber Vouchers will be available for guests to and from the reception venue. If you are staying close by the reception and plan to drink, consider leaving your car after the ceremony and taking an Uber to and from Dynasty Restaurant.

Question

What will be served for dinner at the reception?

Answer

As part of having a traditional Chinese wedding banquet, a 10 course family-style meal will be served to each table. The menu includes a variety of seafood, duck, pig, vegetables, noodles, rice and more with each dish symbolizing an aspect that wishes a rich and prosperous life for the newlyweds.

Question

What is the guidance for gifts?

Answer

Celebrating with you on our special day is the only gift we require. If you do wish to celebrate with a gift, a contribution towards our honeymoon or from our registry will be greatly appreciated. In Chinese & Vietnamese culture, it is customary for guests to give monetary gifts in red envelopes to the wedding couple. Per tradition, guests may also have the newlyweds "earn" (read: drink for) red envelopes during table greetings. For friends and family who have expressed an interest, we have created a registry that is available on our website. As space at the venue is limited, please note that there won't be a table for gifts on the wedding day.

Question

What is the COVID policy?

Answer

Our wedding will follow the latest safety measures and regulations required by the City of San Jose. Nevertheless, for the health and safety of our family and friends, all guests attending must be fully vaccinated. If you are experiencing any symptoms leading up to the event, we respectfully ask you to stay at home. We thank you all for your understanding and accommodations as we navigate through such joyous yet turbulent times.
