Things To Do

The Hot Yoga Barre

1601 Willow Lawn Drive, Richmond, VA 23230
, (804) 814-3067

Sara's current go-to yoga studio (thanks to her matron of honor, Charlotte, who teaches there and introduced her to it). You'll find an array of yoga (mainly vinyasa and power based) classes as well as barre and HIIT. All classes are heated (98-100 degrees) and all have FIRE playlists. Come hydrated and prepared to sweat.

Belle Isle

Richmond, VA

If you need some nature during your trip, definitely go exploring the river down at Belle Isle. Walk along the Pedestrian Bridge (accessible from Tredegar Street) and check out the beautiful scenic views of the city.

Scott's Addition Historic District

Richmond, VA 23230

Scott's Addition is a super fun part of Richmond with lots of restaurants, breweries, and cideries within walking distance of each other. Here's some of our favorite places there: Isley Brewing Company - fun brewery stocked with old-school games like Battleship, Connect Four, and Jenga. Try the Ruby Red Slippers grapefruit IPA or the Choosy Mother peanut butter porter. Lunch.Supper! - Delicious comfort food restaurant with an on-site smokehouse, beer garden, and patio games. We love this place for brunch! Blue Bee Cider - As you may or may not know, Joey has recently become a huge cider convert! Blue Bee is one of our favorite cideries in the area. Try the Mill Race Bramble, Joey's favorite, infused with raspberries and blackberries. The Circuit - Richmond's Barcade! Pour your own beer at their self-serve taps, and test your skills at pinball, Street Fighter, skeeball, and more.

Church Hill

Richmond, VA

Church Hill is a neighborhood of Richmond that is definitely worth checking out. Walk up to Libby Hill Park for a beautiful view overlooking the city. Check out the historic St. John's Church which is where Patrick Henry gave his famous "Give me liberty or give me death" speech. And then finish at one of the many amazing places to eat. We recently did a walking food tour of Church Hill and loved every place we tried. Here's the scoop on some of our faves: Proper Pie Co. - Bakery serving New-Zealand style hand pies with both sweet and savory filling options Nile - Authentic Ethiopian restaurant - OMG this was so good and so flavorful! Step out of your comfort zone and try it! Liberty Public House - Classic comfort food in a converted old theater. Sub Rosa Bakery - James Beard-nominated and understandably so! Try a croissant! Second Bottle Wine - Cute local bottle shop with lots of options from around the world and knowledgeable staff

Carytown

Richmond, VA 23221

Take a walk up and down Cary Street and check out some of the city's coolest shops, boutiques, and restaurants. Mongrel is great for gifts and is also just a fun (and very amusing) place to peruse. Try some French cuisine at Can Can Brasserie. And check out Plan 9 Music, a really neat old school record store.

Stella's

1012 Lafayette Street, Richmond, VA 23221
, (804) 358-2011

Joey and I both LOVE Greek food yet somehow only recently tried this gem of a place. Consider making a reservation or be okay with bar or patio seating as a walk-in (they are busy and for good reason). The Creaton and the Olympic Air are must-try cocktails. The hummus was the best Joey has ever had and the beef and lamb meatballs were to die for. If you plan on ordering from their dinner menu, come HUNGRY.

Legend Brewing Co

321 West 7th Street, Richmond, VA 23224
, (804) 232-3446

The OG of breweries in Richmond, and the only(?) one with a full kitchen/food menu. Great spot for a burger (or soft pretzel) and a beer with an unbeatable view of the river from their patio. Try the Imperial Brown Ale or the Golden IPA.

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery - West Creek

820 Sanctuary Trail Drive, Richmond, VA 23238
, (804) 418-3548

Sara's favorite brewery and arguably the brewery with the best outdoor space. Live music and food trucks most nights and weekends. Try The Great Return west coast style IPA.

Carytown Burgers & Fries

3449 West Cary Street, Richmond, VA 23221
, (804) 358-5225

For arguably the best burger in town, get some takeout from CTBF while you're in Richmond. No frills. No fuss. Just a good burger and fries. Joey's fave: The South of the Border. Just hopefully not the night before the wedding.

Pepe's Mexican Restaurant

9550 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond, VA 23235
, (804) 272-0920

When we say this is our neighborhood Mexican restaurant, we mean it. Practically walking distance from our house, we get our Mexican fix here more often than we should. The Chesterfield Burrito is one of their signature dishes and Joey's favorite, and we will never not get chips and white sauce and a couple of Texas margaritas.
