Maddy and Joe met in 2019 when Maddy joined the engineering team at GE HealthCare in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (where Joe worked). They often hung out with co-workers outside of work but never showed romantic interest in one another. When COVID hit the U.S., Joe and Maddy bonded over their need for social interaction and decided to join each other's "bubble". They quickly learned that they shared a lot of interests like working out, food, wine, dogs, and college basketball. They eventually moved in together with their dog, Pete, and enjoyed everything Milwaukee has to offer, such as Summerfest, Brewers games, Brady Street, and more! In January 2023, Joe moved down to Charlotte, NC to start his new job at Eli Lilly. Maddy and Pete moved down to Charlotte in June 2023 where she worked remotely until she started a new job with Legrand. On July 7, 2023, Joe popped the question at Merchant & Trade, a rooftop bar in Charlotte, marking the beginning of their new chapter together in the South.
