During a road trip from Corpus Christi, Texas to Phoenix, Arizona, we planned a stop at Big Bend national park in west Texas for a long weekend of star and galaxy gazing. It's a trip we had talked about taking for a long time, and we finally decided to make it happen. On January 31st, for the first time in 150 years, there was a lunar eclipse that also coincided with a "super" blue moon. As the moon passed thru the Earth's shadow, it created a reddish hue on the lunar surface, dubbing the phenomenon, the "super blue, blood moon eclipse". We woke up at 4am to watch the eclipse, in the middle of nowhere Texas, with the moon shining so bright it drowned out the stars. At around 6am, we stood outside, looking up at the heavens, when Joe (standing behind me) got down on one knee, asked me to turn around, and asked simply "Will you marry me?" It was magic. To wrap up our engagement weekend, that afternoon, we went for a horseback ride up a local ridge to watch the sunset. We've both taken a number of road trips in our time, both together and solo, but this was by far and away, our favorite.
