Julia and Joe met at a fundraiser for orphans. That is not true, they met online. They matched while Joe was at a Bengals game. Julia does not remember where she was when they matched, as she obviously had many more matches than did Joe. Their first date was at a bar, to celebrate the first Democrat to win a Senate seat in Alabama since 1992. Julia met Joe's family for the first time less than two weeks later. Joe's family was getting kicked out of a bar and needed a ride. This is how all the great modern romances begin. They supported each other through graduate school. They passed many a late night in the law library together, where Joe learned that Julia *cannot* not whisper in a library even if there is literally no one else there. Joe snuck into a genetics conference where Julia was giving a presentation. Julia was a juror for Joe's mock trial class. They had a lot of fun together. As graduate school wound down Joe started to get nervous. He had long ago accepted a job in Dayton and he could not in good conscience ask anyone to move there. Luckily, Julia was soon offered an excellent job in the Dayton area. Unbelievably to Joe, she accepted that job offer. More unbelievably still, she now seems to like Dayton better than Joe does (ask her about the parking!). They lived apart in Dayton for a year before deciding to buy a home together. The global pandemic had just started like 2 days prior. Joe figured the house would either be an unmitigated disaster or a brilliant decision. It turned out to be the latter, because even as the world crumbled around them, Julia and Joe found that they were quite happy together. That contentment and ease, even in the face of apparent armageddon, is what made Joe sure he needed to spend the rest of his life with Julia. She said yes on April 22, 2021. We hope you will come celebrate that "yes" with us on June 25, 2022 at Canyon Run Ranch in Pleasant Hill, Ohio.
