Our story begins in the Chicago Airport on March 22, 2015. Joe was attending the Trane Graduate Training Program in La Crosse WI and Bethany was finishing up the last year of her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. They were both traveling back to their temporary homes in La Crosse after a long weekend getaway. A large Midwest snowstorm caused a gate change, and delay of the mutual last leg to La Crosse. Bethany was early, as she was not yet a seasoned traveler. In complete “Joe-fashion”, Joe showed up to the gate precisely at the original non-snowstorm-delayed -boarding-time. Joe had previously seen Bethany sitting at the original gate and hoped she would be on his flight. When he arrived at the gate (not knowing it had changed) he was disappointed when she was not at the departure gate. Shortly thereafter he noticed that the gate had been changed due to the weather. As he approached the new gate, he noticed that Bethany was sitting at this gate! After some internal dialogue he worked up the courage and decided to sit next her. As the weather conditions worsened, the flight kept getting bumped back and delayed. They ended up talking for about 3 hours in the terminal waiting and wondering when they would cancel the flight. Fortunately, the flight was not cancelled. As they boarded together, they serendipitously realized that they were sitting in side-by-side seats! From that point on they were in constant communication. Six years later, they have moved across the country from Denver to sunny Saint Petersburg, Florida, where they are excited to begin an entirely new life chapter! We are truly living our best lives and couldn’t be more thrilled to continue to build a life together. We cannot wait to get married and celebrate with all our family and closest friends!
