We first met in 1998, when John interviewed Jodie for a job at the Agency as a summer law clerk. (She got the job.) We couldn't bring ourselves to admit that we liked each other until 2014, long after Jodie had left to pursue other jobs. After a dozen years of tolerating John's moaning about Jodie, John's best friends put him up to texting her to find out what she was up to. (It's possible this happened near the end of a late night out.) Fortunately, Jodie's phone number hadn't changed despite upgrading from flip phone to iPhone. After texting like teenagers for a month, they met up in beautiful Bordentown, New Jersey for a drink. The next day, Jodie broke up with her wealthy boyfriend to date John, and has never regretted it. Well, not often.
Three years later, in the same dive bar in Bordentown, NJ where we had our first date, John asked Jodie to marry him. He needed two gin & tonics before asking. Jodie needed three before saying yes.
