Celebrating a union of love and hope

If you ask Jobert, he has a few different stories about how we interacted before we officially met. I, for one, have no recollection of meeting Jobert before our match up against each other. It was the first match up of a Thursday in November at a southern school. Apparently, we met at Father Duenas. I was a senior and captain of Okkodo’s ACB team. I was getting ready at my seat. For a split second, I locked eyes with a guy across the room. He smiled and I must have been smiling too. The game introductions began. It was Okkodo High School versus Simon Sanchez High School. I had some beef with a student in Simon’s team, so I told my teammates that we had to win. The introductions finished on our side and made its way across the room. The guy I locked eyes with introduced himself as their captain. I noticed the hand holding the buzzer. There was a ring sitting on the finger you save for serious commitment. I expressed my disappointment and the game began. Questions were answered in a rapid fire manner. The points were in our favor as the time ran out. My team got up to shake their hands. We made our way across the room. Eventually, I got to Jobert. I held out my hand and he was still sitting there drowning in his thoughts. I must have been rude in the way that I spoke. I said, “ You know it’s rude to not get up when shaking your opponent’s hand.” Something stirred in Jobert. He got up and gave me an astonished look. He acknowledged my handshake. Jobert wasn’t in my mind again until two weeks later at our next ACB game. Our friend, Victor, asked me during the car ride home if I had been interested in anyone. I thought about Jobert. Victor continued asked more prodding questions. Jobert and I eventually exchanged contact information. I’m not really sure how I ended up with such an amazing person, but I am happy to share more stories about us.
