April 2nd-6th: Zabula Game Lodge Bela-Bela, South Africa We have rented a few houses for some family & friends to hangout for the few days before the wedding. It is about a 2.5 hour drive from Johannesburg. We will be just relaxing and spending time together before the wedding. Think morning walks, some afternoon sport and chill braai’s and hanging out by the fire in the evening. If you would like to join us in Zabula Estate there are a few hotels at Zabula as well as houses on Airbnb. There is also a 5 star Big Five game reserve just across the road from there called Mabula Game Lodge if you wanted to spoil yourself for 1 or 2 nights.

Amazing hike up with great views at the top! Hike up and book a ride on the cable car down! Why go: One of the New 7 Wonders of Nature; the best city views in South Africa. Options: Hike up (Platteklip Gorge, India Venster, Kasteelspoort) or take the rotating cable car. Best time: Early morning for clear skies. Tips: If hiking, Platteklip Gorge is the most direct but steep. Buy cable car tickets online IN ADVANCE to skip the long queue and avoid being sold out.
Why go: Shopping, restaurants, local crafts, live music, and harbour views. Highlights: Watershed Market, boat cruises, Two Oceans Aquarium. Tip: Sunset boat cruises are amazing. Visit the Watershed Market for local crafts. The area is very safe and walkable, even at night.
Why go: Visit the prison where Nelson Mandela was held, with tours led by former political prisoners. Time needed: Tours take 3.5–4 hours, including ferry time. Tip: Book well in advance; tours sell out. Weather can cause cancellations — try to book early in your trip and leave flexibility. Why go: Emotional, powerful tour of Mandela’s former prison.
Why go: Easiest, safest way to explore multiple wine farms. Tips: Choose lines based on wineries you want: Purple & Blue = iconic estates. Pink = food + wine combo. Book lunch at one of the wine farms — restaurants book up fast.
Why go: Important museum that documents forced removals during Apartheid. Tips: Go with a guided tour (often given by former residents) — it makes a huge difference. Allow 60–90 minutes to explore. Combine with a visit to Castle of Good Hope nearby.
Why go: Once-in-a-lifetime marine adventure. Tips: Gansbaai = best sightings; Simon’s Town = seasonal. Bring motion sickness tablets, even if you think you’re fine. Morning trips = calmer ocean.
Why go: Dramatic cliffs, wildlife, ocean views, lighthouse trails. Best for: Day trip combining nature + scenery. Often paired with: Boulders Beach (penguins). Combine with Chapman’s Peak Drive for the most scenic route Tips: Go early to avoid long lines at the gate. Bring a jacket — it’s windy even in summer.
