It was 2AM, after a night on the town. We both were dissatisfied with how our nights had gone, so we turned to an online chatroom to keep ourselves entertained as we unwinded for the night. There was a guy who dropped a picture of him at the gym in the chat randomly. Having liquid courage, I decided to tell him how attractive he was, right in front of everyone. To my surprise, he responded and said that I could message him if I would like to. Let it be known that I didn't waste ANY time on sending that DM. I thought I would be invisible to him, only to find out I couldn't have been more wrong. As we started talking, he informed me that he had seen me in other chatrooms but figured he had no chance with me so never bothered talking to me. We chatted via texting the next day. By 8PM, I had convinced him to just call me as he kept telling me he does not enjoy talking on the phone. Well, that first phone call ended up lasting until 5AM. With us both having to work the next morning, we decided to get a couple hours of sleep. We then proceeded to text each other while at work that day, where he then asked if I would go to dinner with him that night. Jokingly, I had responded, "Oh, are you asking me on a date?" Where to my surprise, he responded, "Yes, I think I am." So that night, he picked me up and took me out to dinner. The chemistry was just undeniably there. We ended up staying in the parking lot until 2AM talking, yet again having to work in the morning. The next day, after work we decided to have a low-key night. This turned into an all-nighter due to getting caught up in conversation. When I realized I needed to go to get to work in time, I gave him a hug and blurted out "I love you" to him. I wasn't looking for a relationship, but here I was with these feelings. After work, we went to dinner where he surprised me with flowers and asked me to be his girlfriend. Immediately after, he said he loved me back. And this is why October 2nd is significant to us.

As previously mentioned, October 2nd is when we started dating. So for our 2nd anniversary, Steven surprised me with a trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida! Steven had been coordinating everything with my mom, making sure it was a destination that neither of us had ever been to as he wanted it to be a special place for both of us. Friday, October 1, 2021 is when we flew from Dallas to Fort Lauderdale, getting there late at night. We caught an Uber ride from the airport to the Hilton where we were going to be staying. The next day, Saturday, October 2nd was the big day for us. We went to an outlet mall and shopped until our feet hurt because it was so big and there was so much walking. From the mall, we took an Uber to go back to the hotel to get ready for the night. We then went to a Mexican restaurant that was across the street from the beach. After dinner, Steven wanted to go for a walk on the beach under the moonlight. Anyone who knows Steven, knows he can be a talker. He ended up getting into conversation with me about how much we have grown in our relationship these past 2 years and everything that we have gone through. He proceeded to talk for the next 3 hours reflecting on this and then also telling me all the different things he loves about me. In the midst of this conversation, I had a lizard run over my foot while I was sitting on a retaining wall with my feet in the sand. I screamed and jumped on Steven, then he looks down and he just sees the sand flying in the air from the lizard running. It was quite comical to say the least. Steven then refocuses our conversation, and ends the night with getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him! Of course I said yes, all teary-eyed and quite literally a mess. So there it was, October 2, 2021 close to midnight, on the windy beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.. under the moonlight, with a ship out in the horizon and the lights of the city behind us that we made the decision to spend forever together.
