The story actually starts off a few years before... We had met in passing at Camp Wolverine (ZAXIE!!!) on the Owasippe Scout Reservation in Michigan. Sherry was working at Camp Reneker (Go For It!) and had visited Jim's troop's campsite, with our mutual friend Bonnie. It was more like two ships passing in the night... Fast-forward a few years to April 2019 at Bonnie's birthday party. We 'really' met there, over pulled pork and meatballs. Sherry brought the pork, Jim brought the meatballs. We started off by sharing recipes and became friends on Facebook. Jim's posts started filling up Sherry's newsfeed and we messaged back and forth a few times.
Who goes out on a Tuesday??....... Jim had posted that he would be 'alone' for Thanksgiving because his kids would be out of town. With the encouragement of Bonnie's daughter Andi, Sherry messaged Jim and asked him out for dinner... Because of scheduling, it was decided to go to dinner on TUESDAY..... It was a wonderful date, with Cuban food, Costa Rican rum and live music, WHO has live music on a Tuesday?? While having dinner, the conversation was easy, both sharing very similar views on life. After the date they were both smitten.....
Day 2 of a 16 day cross-country trip. We were on the way to Bremerton, Washington so that Jim could join a reunion of former Navy Shipmates. A couple weeks before the trip, Theodore Roosevelt National Park was added to the list of National Parks we wanted to visit along our route. We had overnighted in a "wolly wagon" near the south unit of the park and 'survived' a series of bad storms during the night. While driving the scenic loop, we stopped at the top of Boicourt Trail, and Jim took a short hike to try and find a Bison to shoot (a picture of). He was able to see one - his first Bison in the wild, and brought the pictures back to share. We rested on a bench near the top of the trail and then..... [Jim] "I know I can't offer you anything but my heart.... (Hell) I don't even have a ring yet.... but.... Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" [Sherry] "Are you sure you want to do this??" [Jim] "Yes - I'm sure" [Sherry] "Yes!" (But............. Inquiring minds want to know....... How would the rest of the trip have gone if the answer turned out to be 'no'....)
