Just a quick trip ...

The Hallmark ending - Oct 14, 2023

Her Side: It's October 13, and I'm flying to Boise from Orlando to attend my friend from high school, Tasha Vraspir's wedding! It's a quick 38 hour trip, but worth it to connect and witness her marry her best friend! Tasha invited me to the rehearsal dinner and I remember noticing John from across the way and being very intrigued by him, but we never connected. Saturday is wedding day! And as sweet as the wedding was John was so handsome standing up there, I couldn't help but notice him. During brunch I was walking back to my table with food and I needed to "scooch on by him," he looked up as I approached and I winked as he moved his chair for me. I remember being stunned at my boldness, winking at a complete stranger, who the heck am I?! After the reception I hung around for photos to finish so I could say a final bye to Tasha, while filling out their guest book John comes over "looking for water." He tried some cute small talk, and I guess it worked! We started talking non-stop when John realizes that I don't live in Boise! I could see the disappointed look on his face as he gives the cheesiest of lines "If you're ever back in Boise..." I interrupted him with "You could just take my number," so he hands me his phone, I enter my number and I walk away. I needed to nap before my red eye home! As I'm walking down the stairs I hear someone come running behind me and it's John, wanting to walk me to my car! We chatted a few more minutes, as I wondering if he's going to make the next move or not, I finally get a hug and its time for me to leave. Just a few minutes later I received a text from John asking if I would be up for coffee before my flight. After quickly packing, we met at Slow by Slow coffee, and the conversation never stopped. We talked about everything, it was the fastest 4 hours of my life. We wondered around downtown, and I gave him such a hard time with my sass and quick wit. I knew he was interested, he couldn't stop watching me. Finally it was time to head to the airport and it was the hardest goodbye to someone I hardly knew. Turns out it wasn't goodbye, in fact we never stopped talking after that coffee date. I was very hesitate to start long distance, or even start a relationship at all, but he was kind and patient and made me feel stronger for him in just a few days than I ever thought possible.

She didn't even share her breadstick ...

His Side: Its October 13th the rehearsal day for my older brother Matthew’s wedding, little did I know the love of my life, my soulmate is sitting on a plane flying to Idaho for what’s about to be the quickest trip she’s ever taken. I of course show up late, because life with kids is always a guessing game. As I walk in and start greeting everyone…. There she is sitting quietly on the back patio in a dark blue flannel, her auburn hair glowing from the setting sun that evening. There it is, I’m staring at my soulmate, the evening progresses we get the formalities out of the way for his wedding and now dinner, pretty uneventful, good conversations, lots of laughs and smiles, as I’m in the kitchen this absolutely stunning mystery woman slides past me with the last bread stick, and has the audacity to not even offer a bite as she walks away leaving me dazed and confused. October 14th wedding day! The ceremony was amazing, very happy for my brother and new sister in law as they start their journey, things are winding down coming to an end pictures are being taken as I wander out into the hallway to find a drink for me and my son…. There she is again, this mysterious woman, only this time she has on the most amazing, breathtaking royal blue dress, she is knelt down signing the guest book as I walk by and drop the most important sentence I’ve ever said to her… “did they put the water thing away..?” Little did I know that would spark the conversation that never ended. We started by casually small talking what do you do for work, how do you know the bride and groom, then the real question, do you live around here, “no, I live in Florida.” Heartbroken. So again with my quick wit I give her the second most important line I ever have, “well if you’re ever back in town we should get together” and she responded with you could take my number. As she walked away I thought to myself walk her to her car dummy! So I proceeded to walk her out to her car and give her a nice little hug and say our goodbyes. Making my way upstairs to say goodbye to everyone else, and gush about Jill, my brother and his new wife gave me the idea to ask her on a quick date so I ask if she wanted to grab a coffee, shot her a place and said I would meet her there. The conversation never ended, we wandered around downtown Boise for 4 hours and it was the shortest 4 hours of my life, she teased me with her quick wit and sass and I loved every minute of it. The time came to send her on her way to the airport, I walked her to her car, said our goodbyes and as I started walking away there was something in me that said I needed to kiss her and if I didn’t I would regret it, so halfway across the crosswalk I spun around on my heels and jogged back to her car, gently tapped on her window and said “if I don’t do this I will regret it” leaned into her car and kissed her. It truly was love at first sight, she has been a blessing in my life since that first day.
