Thomas was a 2nd year medical student and Jessica was a 1st year physician assistant (PA) student at the University of Colorado Medical School. Part of the PA school curriculum included a semester of anatomy, involving cadaver dissection. Thomas had the opportunity to become a teaching assistant (TA) for anatomy dissection as a 2nd year medical student. Yes, we met dissecting a human body. Thomas would try to annoy (or flirt?) with Jessica by clamping hemostats onto her scrubs while she was not looking. They decided to get coffee one day after lab and the rest is history.

Thomas invited Jessica to go to a pumpkin patch for a lazy weekend activity. Once they arrived, Thomas tells Jessica they are partaking in a tour of the farm via golf cart given by a staff member of the farm. The tour was given with such great detail, Jessica even asked questions to further inquire on the history. Unbeknownst to her, there are no tours given at this farm and the history was fabricated. Several minutes later they approached a nicely set up picnic, alongside the Cumberland river. At this point Jessica still thought this was a part of the tour. The picnic was beautiful, like a scene out of ABC's Bachelorette TV show. After walking closer, Jessica then realized something special was going to happen. Thomas popped the question and then a secret photographer, Thomas’ radiology attending, popped out of the bushes. Later that evening Thomas had planned a surprise party in downtown Nashville with their closest friends to celebrate the event.
