Tips + Tricks

Getting Around

...

Grab (like Uber) is the easiest app to use. Taxis are fine too - just make sure the driver turns on the meter. The Skytrain (BTS) and subway (MRT) are great for avoiding traffic. Rush hour can be intense - plan a little extra time if you’re heading to dinner or the airport.

Cash vs Card

...

Credit cards are accepted in most restaurants and hotels. Markets, taxis, massage shops, and street stalls usually prefer cash. ATMs are easy to find - withdraw Thai baht when you arrive.

Jet Lag Help

...

Get sunlight, walk outside, and try to stay on local time. Short naps are ok - but avoid long mid-day sleep if you can.

Shoes & Walking

...

Bangkok is partly walkable - but sidewalks can be uneven. Wear comfy shoes. Bring socks if you’ll be visiting multiple temples (you’ll be taking shoes off).

Stay Hydrated

...

Between the heat, humidity, and travel, it’s easy to get dehydrated. Keep a water bottle with you and sip often. Stick to bottled water, and grab a few extras from the hotel before heading out. Packing a few electrolyte packets (LMNT, Liquid I.V., Nuun, etc.) can really help - just mix with bottled water. And if you forget, coconut water is everywhere and amazing for rehydrating.

Visiting Temples

...

Thailand has gorgeous temples - just remember: Shoulders + knees should be covered. No shoes inside temple buildings. Bring a light scarf or wrap - easy fix if you forget.
