Jess and Scott first met during the early days of the Covid Pandemic. Jess was hired as a restaurant manager at The Pines Country Club and Scott was (of course) always at the club. He would play golf nearly every day during the height of the pandemic and stop in the restaurant to have a beer (or a few) after the round. Over the next several months Jess and Scott got to know one another while she worked and he played, quite literally. It took Scott almost six months before he finally asked Jess out on a real first date. Scott loved Jess’s hard working attitude and good natured heart. Her genuine care for others showed every day at work. Jess loved Scott’s drive for success and his spontaneity. When you spend everyday with someone during a pandemic, it’s amazing how much you learn in such little time. Later that year Jess graduated from WVU and accepted a position with WVU Hospitals and essentially gave Scott his ‘golf playground’ back.
The proposal was everything Jess could’ve dreamed of, mostly private with a little surprise at the end. Scott planned a Friday evening 9-hole round and dinner at our country club in Pittsburgh, PA. On the second tee box there is a scenic overlook of the Allegheny River. Scott conned Jess into taking her golf glove off her left hand by asking her to pose for a picture in front of the beautiful scenery. Once the picture was taken Scott walked toward Jess, got down on one knee, and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. She said yes! The short ride back to the clubhouse after one hole of golf was filled with joy and so much love. It was the most Scott has ever cried on the golf course (other than when he loses a bet to his friends). Scott had one more surprise in store when they arrived back at the clubhouse…Jess’s parents, Scott’s mom, his brothers Brooks and Tim along with Tim’s wife Sydney were all waiting for the newly engaged couple! It was truly an unforgettable memory to have all of our biggest supports there to celebrate.
